Hello and Welcome
Welcome to Cream City Boxing, a full-service boxing gym opening in the
fall of 2010 in the northwest side of Milwaukee. The gym will offer a
variety of fitness and competitive programs for children, adolescents
and adults.

About Us
Cream City Boxing is non-profit organization serving young people with
physical exercise programs, mentoring and support to provide an
alternative to involvement with drugs, gangs and other delinquent
behavior. Boxing has a long tradition of serving urban youth by
introducing tools for self-discipline, character-building and dedication
to a greater goal. Boxing remains an important outlet for many kids who
don't have interest in team sports.
Kirby Lockett founded Cream City Boxing in 2010, but has been in the
boxing industry since 1997, to provide a safe haven
for Milwaukee youth and positive influence to develop character and
self-discipline. The Trainers at the gym are experienced community
volunteers who are involved with
boxing. They all share the vision that the most important role of the
gym is to provide young people with a stable and secure environment to
learn a sport that helps grow strong bodies, disciplined minds and
enhanced personal character.
Our Mission
Cream City Boxing is helping to prepare boys and girls and young men and
women in the inner city of Milwaukee to play positive roles in their
communities. Working with young people from seven to 25 years old, Cream
City Boxing teaches lessons in self-discipline, commitment and
responsibility.
Cream City Boxing is an after-school and recreational program that
offers a safe haven and supportive environment to inner-city youths and
young adults.
Organized in 1997 by Kirby Lockett, a long-time advocate for inner-city
youth in the Milwaukee Area, Cream City Boxing is a non-profit 501c3
corporation.
Boxing and fitness are our central activities. Our mission, however, is
to help youths and young adults who are vulnerable to getting involved
in gangs, drugs and other trouble develop the character and confidence
that will ensure that they become productive members of the community. A
founding principle of our organization is that physical well-being,
moral strength, emotional health and a hopeful outlook can be nurtured
simultaneously.
Thus, through boxing and fitness, we teach life skills, such as
self-discipline and how to work successfully with other people. In
short, we mentor. And we help youths and young adults make good choices.
One example of using boxing and fitness to serve another purpose is our
daily requirement that students complete homework before beginning other
activities.
Many of the young people we serve are at risk, by virtue of difficult
circumstances where they live, of making a variety of harmful choices.
Through relationships with children from Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS),
Community Parents and other
organizations, we seek especially to identify youths who have begun to
head down destructive paths and who would benefit the most from
additional stable adult relationships. By giving them an opportunity to
belong to a healthy social network, we help them find a positive path.
The Boxing Workout
Few exercise programs provide the benefits of boxing. It’s a total-body
workout that helps achieve a number of fitness goals, from
cardiovascular health to weight loss to improved balance, strength and
agility. Most of all, it’s exhilarating and fun.
Gain a Competitive Edge
Boxing is based on a set of physical and mental skills that combine to
test personal courage, physical endurance and mental focus. Getting in
the ring is the greatest personal challenge and the boxer is the
best-conditioned athlete in any sport.
Commitment ... Results
A variety of non-contact and competitive programs are available for
boxers who want to learn the “sweet science,” from the basics of
wrapping hands to defensive slipping and counter punching.

Successes
We know from experience that youths who get involved in our program get
on track at school and take more responsibility for themselves. With the
nurturing guidance of our program, young people come to see that hard
work, civility and a positive outlook do pay off.
Cream City Boxing is supported by a variety of contributors, including
individuals, businesses, foundations and government entities.
